Running into a Friend

-Ε, Μαρία!

-Α, γεια σου, Σοφία. Καιρό έχω να σε δω.

-Ναι, χαθήκαμε.

-Τι νέα;

-Καλά, τα συνηθισμένα.

-Τι κάνει ο Νίκος;

-Μια χαρά.

-Να του δώσεις χαιρετισμούς.

-Ευχαρίστως.

-Λοιπόν, πρέπει να πηγαίνω.

-Χάρηκα που σε είδα.

-Κι εγώ. Τα λέμε!

-Μη χαθούμε πάλι!

-Ελπίζω πως όχι.

-Καλό βράδυ.

English Translation

-Hey, Maria!
Ε!: (interjection). Here it is used to catch someone's attention from afar.

- Ah, hi Sophia! I haven't seen you for a while.
"Καιρός": time| weather, here: a long time. I haven't seen you for a long time.

-Yes, we lost touch.
"Χαθήκαμε": Literally, we've lost each other. It will be discussed in more advanced lessons about the passive voice of verbs.

-What's new? Fine, the usual.

-How is  Nikos?

-He's very well.

Idiom: μια χαρά=fine, great. Χαρά: joy.

-Say "hi" for me. (or Give him my regards)

- Gladly ( or With pleasure)

-Well, I have to go.
"Πρέπει να πηγαίνω": "I have to get going".

-It was nice seeing you.

-Me too. See you around.

-Let's not lose touch again.

" Μη χαθούμε πάλι": Literally "let's not lose each other again". It will be discussed in more advanced lessons about the passive voice of verbs.

-I hope not.

-Good night.

It translates as "Good evening" but we use it when saying goodbye, and it's not late enough to say "good night".
